A place with roots
The story of Pickleball Cayman is as unique as the sport itself. The land, once owned by Capt. Osmond Thompson, a seafarer who brought goods to Grand Cayman from Nicaragua and Honduras, was traded not in dollars, but in land parcels.
Fast forward a few decades and Jerry Beck, a local pickleball enthusiast, started teaching the game to a few friends. Soon, more than 100 people were meeting weekly to play at Jerry’s home. That’s when the vision took root: build a dedicated facility that honored Cayman’s past, while embracing the future of recreational sport. Today, the onsite restaurant offers local food and drinks while its pro shop is styled as a classic old Cayman style cottage in tribute to the history of the land on which the courts are built.
Where play meets paradise
Step onto one of the 12 indoor courts or rally beneath the glow of floodlights on any of the 24 total courts. Certified coaches offer tips on your swing, while laughter echoes from the playground nearby. And when the match is over? You’ll find players swapping stories over craft beers and local bites at The Roost, a laid-back restaurant that sits at the center of the action.
More than a match
From club tournaments to casual games, Pickleball Cayman thrives on its mix of competition and community. Premier League players are drafted and face off in over 80 games each season. The league is serious about its games and comes complete with captains, scorecards and penalties for rule breakers. At the same time, newcomers and regulars mix it up during daily open play sessions from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
A place for all ages
Kids aren’t left out of the fun. A whimsical adventure playground keeps little ones busy while older kids join in after-school pickleball camps led by coaches and children program managers. Summer and holiday camps bring even more action that combine fitness, games, arts and crafts, and lunch from the onsite restaurant.
From its roots in a backyard court to a state-of-the-art facility, Pickleball Cayman is now one of the island’s most vibrant spaces to gather, compete and connect. It’s all happening in South Sound. And whether you’re swinging a paddle for the first time or chasing a championship title, there’s a place here for you.
